Rex’s All That: A Totally Rad 90s/2000s Party for the Books

The 90s/2000s are everything! From boy bands and Beanie Babies to cassette players and Capri Suns, it’s impossible not to feel a wave of nostalgia when you think about all the amazing trends, snacks, and vibes of the era. It was my childhood, and let me tell you, when my client Krista wanted a 90s/2000s-themed bash for her baby boy Rex, I was all in!

We went all out, crafting a party that screamed, “I love the 90s and 2000s!” From the food to the details, the activities to the photo ops, it was a throwback extravaganza with a fun dog-friendly twist.

Let’s dive into the highlights!

DIY Pup Lunchables

A standout from the party was the DIY Pup Lunchable station. This idea was inspired by Cristin Creates, who made a human version that I couldn’t resist giving a dog-friendly spin.

You can find her original tutorial here (seriously, check her out!), but here’s how I transformed it into a treat for the pups:

Instead of crackers and cheese for humans, I filled the Lunchables with:

  • Freeze-Dried Cheese

  • Three Dog Bakery Sandwich Cookies

  • Jerky-Style Beef Treats

What you’ll need to recreate this:

  • Sweater gift box

  • Scissors

  • Clear food containers

  • Cricut or similar cut machine

  • Red and white vinyl

  • Yellow paint (or whatever colors match your party vibe!)

  • Paintbrushes

How to make it:

  1. Trace and cut holes into your box to fit the food containers snugly.

  2. Paint the box and let it dry.

  3. Add your vinyl designs.

  4. Assemble your treats into the containers and drop them into the box.

BOOM! You’ve got a nostalgic pup-lunchable for your doggos next party!

Totally Rad Party Stations

The nostalgia didn’t stop with the food! We set up several themed stations to bring the 90s/2000s to life:

  • Pup Ball Pit: Because no party is complete without a little chaos.

  • Temporary Tattoo Station: Humans got tatted up with fun designs.

  • Lick-It-Real-Good Painting Station: Pups created their own masterpieces using peanut butter and paint. (Supplies: Ziploc bags, small canvases, paint, peanut butter, and spoons.)

  • Beanie Babies for the pups: TY Beanie Babies as party favors? Yes, please!

  • Photo Booth: Complete with a colorful backdrop, balloons, and marquee lights spelling out “Rex.”

  • Caricature Artist: Capturing the fun from each guest and their fur-babies!

Drool-Worthy Birthday Cake

Of course, no party is complete without cake! Rex’s cake was the centerpiece of the dessert table, dripping in green slime (hello, Nickelodeon vibes!) and topped with a custom acrylic topper that read “Rex’s All That.” It was fun, colorful, and perfectly nostalgic. As you can see in the pictures below, Rex wasted no time diving in!

Totally Rad Details

From the Capri Suns for humans to the retro signage scattered throughout, every little detail was designed to transport guests (and their pups!) back in time.

Some of my favorite signs included:

  • “It’s Gonna Be Treats” (a play on NSYNC’s “It’s Gonna Be Me”)

  • “Getting Crafty With It” (a nod to Will Smith’s “Getting Jiggy With It”)

  • “Oops, I Ate It Again” (because Britney is forever iconic)

  • “Sip Me Baby One More Time” (Britney, again!)

  • “Sippin’ on Capri Suns” (a Snoop Dogg twist)

These signs brought the theme to life and tied all the party elements together perfectly! And of course with our pup-related spin on things.
